The Neuschwanstein Castle is on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau in Germany. It was a 1.1 mile uphill climb to reach the castle which was built by the fairytale King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Unfortunately photos cannot be taken of the interior but the walls are decorated with frescoes depicting scenes from Richard Wagner’s operas. Ludwig was quite the fan and patron of Wagner’s works.
